Maggie is a dreamer with lots of goals to achieve on her 'before 30' list. She wants to fall in love, write a book, and lose weight. Only nothing seems to go as planned. She finds herself signed up for a marathon when she can't run, with a book deal without a book, and surrounded by two hunks, Ben and Blake, neither of whom seem to know she is a woman. What's a girl to do when she's a hopeless romantic? Write about it of course.
This is Book One in the series The Shameful Diary of a Hopeless Romantic.
The Shameful Diary of a Hopeless Romantic, Book Two will be out Summer 2012.

Do you want to laugh out loud? Haven't read anything that makes you think your the smartest person in the world lately? Need that little extra pick me up? Read this you'll change your mind while cracking up!I enjoyed this far more than I should have. Maggie was a bit idiotic and thought way to much. She is like a small child who still holds onto dreams and see's the world/everything almost as if it evolves around her. She does understand realistically that that's just not the case, but she still see's it happening. Which is a bit of a mind boggle, you would have to read it to understand what I'm talking about.
Connecting to the character was not a problem for me. Like I said she was a bit stupid for lack of a better word but not so dumb that she is annoying. I could totally see myself being her and thinking the way she does. Its actually kind of sad but at the same time ridiculously hilarious.
Think along the lines of;
You post a review for a book. Add to this- "someone" told you that your Review for this book changed their life.
Add to that- and lets say that that "someone" is an Author. The first thing that's going to pop into your head is that your a "talented writer" right?
Then lets add to that- let your imagination wonder... now your to the point that since you wrote this 'freaking awesome Review' maybe you could get payed to just Review (books of course.)
Now that your getting payed to Review books all the famous Authors just have to have you Review their stuff and help out when their books are being made into movies.
Lets up that and keep exaggerating- now you think that you are going to be the next Oprah, all because you 'inspired' this one person who just happened to be an "Author" who then tells everyone about you. That led you to Review famous Authors works. Which will ultimately lead to a TV show over your Review.
This is basically how the story goes...
I wouldn't quite say that she gets so carried away but you get the point.
To recommend or not recommend that is the question? I do. Its just too funny, cute and oh so true to not recommend this.

The Shameful Diary of a Hopeless Romantic Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Suzi Case Anne Clamp Books Reviews
The Shameful Diary of a Hopeless Romantic was written by Suzi Case. Ms. Case contacted me about reading this book and after reading the synopsis, I thought it sounded great, right up my alley. This is a very fast read, with lots of humor and a great idea. It just never all came together for me.
The story is told from the point of view of Maggie, the main character. Try as I might, I just couldn't like her. It made it very hard for me to enjoy the story, honestly. Her incessant lying and sheer stupidity in some situations made it very hard for me to get behind her. I will say though, there was some growth in the character as the story progressed.
I did love Blake, Maggie's childhood friend who comes back into her life. He's the kind of guy all the girls lust over; sweet, handsome, successful and funny. It's very hard to NOT like him. He has a patience with Maggie that I found sweet and awe-inspiring at times, honestly and I really enjoyed his character.
I'm not a fan of cliffhanger endings, so I wasn't pleased with that, but I'm hoping there will be another installment so we can see if Maggie gets her life figured out and keeps on growing. All in all, I enjoyed a lot of the book, the tone was amusing and it was well-written. I think I would have enjoyed if more if Maggie was a little different. I do have hope for the sequel, though.
Well. At the beginning I found it a little boring she, the MC Maggie, babbled about nothing interesting and then about a third of the way through it got interesting I skipped over the useless babbling and just read the funny bits which there were a lot of. I was really enjoying it and then the end totally sucked. I can see the author did it so she could get another book out of the story but there was really no need, she should of maybe come up with a whole new set of characters for another story.
Sorry, I didn't really like this.
Talk about a woman ( Maggie) that hasn't a clue to what is going on around her. So wrapped up in her daydreaming and fibs that she doesn't ever realize what is going on with her friends.
Then when she seems to start growing up a bit the story just ends without preparing you that the story will continue, possibly, in the next book.
Yeah, I know this was free, but you have to make me want to pay for the next book because the first was so intriguing. The author is on the right track, just needs to round it out a lot more.
A lite bubblegum read.
Maggie is self absorbed who day dreams constantly.
This is the first book in a series. I didn’t enjoy it enough to read the next one.
Two and a half stars.
The chapters begin as a diary entry of the main character Maggie. I happen to love that. I know the title says "Diary" and all that, but I was just glad to see it actually was in that format. I can relate to Maggie in so many ways! She's an honest, real character, and a hopeless romantic who will leave you laughing. You get to see her fail at her first gym workout, which is always a fear. But winds up meeting up with an old childhood friend who is not the boy she remembered, but a big hunk of man who she winds up having conflicting feelings about. The pace of this book is quick and funny and all the characters are charming. I can't wait for the next book. Such a quirky, happy read that left me smiling. It's great when characters reflect real people. I related so it was a joy to read. Bring on the next!
sigh not sure why a downloaded this book, I know it was free, the premise of the story was catchy and the cover was worthy, but..... the main character Maggie was all over the place, irritating at times and such a flake. There were times I wanted to slap her and yell at her to grow up. Only thing that kept me reading was to see how she was going to get out of the mess that is her life. Got to the end and I was pissed, cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers on books that I have no interest in continue reading but at the same time what to know what happens but not enough to invest time reading the next book, lol
